Jacksonville man dies after hitting curb, going airborne, crashing into pedestrian bridge in St. Johns County

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 35-year-old Jacksonville man died early Tuesday morning following a crash in St. Johns County.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man was driving southbound on State Road 9B approaching the intersection of St. Johns Parkway. When he entered the intersection, the car he was driving struck the curb on the right shoulder and went airborne, FHP said.

The car then collided with the pedestrian bridge and overturned multiple times and the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the car.

The car ended up in a water-filled ditch on the west shoulder of County Road 2209 under the pedestrian walkway and the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Southbound lanes were closed in the area while FHP investigated.
