JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed inside a home in the New Town neighborhood Friday morning, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Police said they responded to a home on West 2nd Street around 11:20 a.m.

When officers arrived, there were several people inside the house, including the 16-year-old who had been shot, according to police.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department pronounced the 16-year-old dead at the scene.
Police said they currently have four people detained who are in the process of being interviewed at the Police Memorial Building. All of the people detained are adults, according to JSO.
At this time, officers said they did not know the circumstances of the incident or the relationship of the people involved. Detectives are currently working on obtaining search warrants to enter the house and search for evidence.
Multiple law enforcement sources told News4JAX the shooting was believed to be accidental.
JSO said they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public.
