Northeast Florida Scottish Highland Games and Festival returns to Clay County Fairgrounds this weekend

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – If you’re looking for fun plans this weekend, look no more!

The Northeast Florida Scottish Highland Games and Festival is back this weekend at the Clay County Fairgrounds.

Each year, hundreds of residents of Northeast Florida and its surrounding areas gather to enjoy the athletics, music, food and fun of the Highland Games.

The one-day family event will open its gates at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and will run until 10 p.m., according to its website.

The “Scottish Athletics” will include its traditional caber, sheaf, hammer, weight over bar, and weight for distance events.

The event will also feature its “Band and Solo Piping Competition,” axe throwing, archery, sheep herding demonstrations -- and more!

What: Northeast Florida Scottish Highland Games and Festival

Where: Clay County Fairgrounds at 2497 State Road 16 W. in Green Cove Springs

When: Saturday, Feb. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Tickets: General admission tickets cost $15. VIP ticket packages are sold out, according to the website. Children aged 10 and younger will receive free admission.

On-site parking is free for this event.

Clay County officials ask drivers to plan ahead as they can expect heavy traffic and delays.

The following detour may affect drivers heading to the Northeast Florida Scottish Highland Games and Festival this Saturday.

County Road 218 (Middleburg): Detour, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. to Feb. 25 at 10 p.m., road closed from Henley Rd. to SR 16, detour on Thunder Road. Emergency services will have access at all times.

Because of the detour, Clay County officials ask that you take SR 16 to the Clay County Fairgrounds.
