1 dead, another in critical condition after fight over gun during suspected drug deal: JSO

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – One man was killed and another was critically injured Monday night when each was shot during a struggle over a gun, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the fight happened during a suspected drug deal sometime before 9:30 p.m. Monday.

The investigation began Monday night when officers were called to a reported shooting on Evergreen Place in the Panama Park neighborhood.

While they were on their way there, another call came in reporting that someone had been shot on East 48th Street -- about a mile away.

Officers who responded to East 48th Street found a man in his 20s who had been shot in the head. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital, where he was in critical condition at last check.

When officers got to the scene on Evergreen Place, they found a man in his 30s, who was the first 911 caller. They also found a man in his 20s who had been shot to death inside a vehicle.

Police believe the three men -- who knew each other -- were together for a suspected drug deal near Evergreen Place, off Buffalo Avenue, when one of them pulled out a gun during an argument. During a struggle over the gun, two of the men were shot.
