DCPS leaders break ground on new building at Mandarin High School that will eliminate 19 portables

Building expected to be completed by the fall of 2025

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Mandarin High is getting a major upgrade.

On Wednesday, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on campus to mark the start of construction for its brand-new culinary and medical labs.

Mandarin High School is digging up new upgrades and Principal Sara Bravo couldn’t be more excited.

“To actually have this day happening is dream come true,” Bravo said.

Crews plan to build an on-campus wing split between medical students and culinary students.

It comes equipped with a state-of-the-art kitchen and a medical lab, and each side will have eight classrooms. The new building addition will also result in the removal of 19 portables currently on campus.

In total, it’s a nearly $33-million project and it was funded with the half-cent sales tax.

The building is expected to be complete by fall 2025.
