‘We are in pain’: Family of 21-year-old beautician killed in Westside triple shooting mourns loved one

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of the woman killed in a triple shooting Wednesday on Jacksonville’s Westside is speaking out.

Da’Mya Green was shot during an altercation in the area of Labelle Street and Plymouth Street. Green was one of three people hit, but she was the only one who died.

“It’s just so devastating that this happened so quickly. And she’s so young; she was only 21 years old. So, our families are very devastated right now in the grieving process,” Green’s cousin Tamika Wolfe-McKenzie said.

Green was a beautician, who had recently opened her hair salon in February.

“She was just so loving. And she loved on everybody and that smile. I will always remember that smile that she had,” Wolfe-McKenzie said. “She did all sorts of hairstyles and just made people look amazing.”

Wolfe-McKenzie said she received the call around 2:30 a.m. So, she immediately raced to the scene.

“Once I got here, I found red tape and police were everywhere. And my main concern was where’s Mya. One of the detectives was like she’s at Orange Park,” she said.

Four people were taken into custody for questioning but no arrests have been made.

“We are really still trying to process it. Like I know that. Yes, Mya is currently deceased, but we are in pain. We’re trying to figure out why. Why would someone do that to her? It’s just painful and hurtful,” Wolfe-McKenzie said.

The family started a GoFundMe to help with funeral arrangements.
