JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – There have been five shootings involving teens in Jacksonville over the last few months. Three were in Northwest Jacksonville, one was in the downtown area and the other was on the Westside.

So far only two cases have had an arrest.

The first deadly shooting of the year was 14-year-old Micah Thomas.

A neighbor heard gunshots and found Thomas shot. They helped him until police arrived and he was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

No arrests have been made.

In February, a 16 and 17-year-old were killed.

In March, a teen was critically injured.

Most recently, two 15-year-olds were injured in a shooting Saturday morning in the Magnolia Gardens neighborhood, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

When officers arrived at the home on Lippia Road, they located a girl suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, police said. She was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Before officers arrived, a second victim, a 15-year-old boy, had transported himself to a hospital sustaining one gunshot wound. He also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police detained one person, and detectives are in the process of conducting interviews and canvassing the area.

Police said they don’t know what led to the shooting. However, they said they believe the person they detained and the victims knew each other.

A.J. Jordan with Mad Dads said too many young people are dying from gun violence.

“I think it’s just sad that our young folks are choosing gun violence to solve their issues. I just wish they could solve it a different way besides getting these guns and taking it out that way,” Jordan said.

He added that there are multiple factors contributing to gun violence among the youth.

“You know a lot of our young people have been raised in violent homes and violent communities and we have to talk about that. I was a young man who was raised in a violent home from a little kid and a violent community. You have stuff going on in your home and then when you come out there’s more violence so we have to deal with that aspect of it,” Jordan said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call JSO.
