MAXVILLE, Fla. – A heavy police presence on County Road 217 in Maxville drew lots of questions Thursday as police vehicles lined one side of the road for hours.
News4JAX spotted homicide investigators and the medical examiner at a wooded property and later learned from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office that they were investigating a suicide at the home.
The north end of the road was shut down just before 6:30 a.m. but cars were moving through again around 8:30 a.m.
Crime scene tape could be seen blocking an entryway to the wooded property near a “No Trespassing” sign, and later in the morning, Homeland Security agents were spotted on a green armored truck that drove onto the property and eventually drove back onto County Road 217.
Agents with Homeland Security Investigations, officers and detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol and deputies with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were all at the scene, along with multiple crime scene vans, undercover vehicles and SUVs.
News4JAX has been told that Homeland Security is the lead agency on the investigation, but the only information released so far is that the investigation involves a suicide.
