Before officers arrived, a second victim, a 15-year-old boy, had transported himself to a hospital sustaining one gunshot wound. He also suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

According to the suspect’s arrest report, the two 15-year-olds were shot inside the home.

The report also states that JSO went to the hospital to speak with the 15-year-old boy, who said he was asleep and when he woke up, he had been shot. He also stated he didn’t know who shot him and that there were no prior issues in the home before shots were fired.

The 15-year-old boy also said that he and the suspect are cousins, the report states.

According to the arrest report, a JSO officer located the suspect at a home across the street from the shooting location, and he told the officer he was asleep when the shooting happened. He also said when he woke up, he saw blood and then “ran across the street to the abandoned house and fell asleep.” He then said he had been there for about 30 minutes before speaking with the officer who observed what appeared to be blood on the suspect’s shorts.

The 17-year-old boy is now facing one charge of shooting/throwing deadly missiles into a dwelling. He also faces a charge of using a firearm under the influence of alcohol, the report states.

The redacted arrest report does not say what may have led to the shooting.
