On March 16, officers and deputies responded to a report of a man shot on E. Drain Street. Police said a 19-year-old man was shot twice in the chest and near the hip and was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Early investigation indicated a fight between two men broke out on South Anderson Street. Police said that Henderson, the man arrested, was one of the two men involved in the fight.
Soon after, shots were fired and several people ran away or left in their cars, according to police.
Henderson walked over to a silver car parked and he allegedly started shooting, according to police. The 19-year-old man who was shot was a bystander, police said.
Police said following the shooting, no one in the immediate neighborhood came forward to provide information as to who was involved or what occurred, and they had just a few leads.
Police said the victim, who is still recovering, was able to give police the name of the suspect.
In addition, thanks to an almost $300,000 investment to install cameras in the neighborhood, called “pole cameras,” police were able to identify, locate and make an arrest in connection with this shooting.
Police said there was a big motivation to get those pole cameras added after two different deadly drive-bys that happened in the same neighborhood two years ago that are still under investigation.
Henderson is facing a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
