Family of man killed in home invasion robbery releases surveillance footage of incident

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The family of a man who was killed in a home invasion robbery in January on Jacksonville’s westside has released surveillance footage from that night in hopes of getting the case solved.

Two months have passed since Gary Mills was found shot inside an Argyle Forest Boulevard home and he was taken to the hospital in critical condition where he later died from his injuries.

“Gary was the first person in our generation to go off to college, come home and talk to us about it and tell us there’s a world bigger than Jacksonville. He gave us hope that there was more out there,” his sister, Genay Mills said.

Home surveillance captured two of the four suspects involved.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released two photos of the suspects and a picture of a car they could have been riding in.

A few days later, Mills’ family released some of the surveillance footage from that night.

“We just didn’t feel as if those pictures were a realistic reflection of what the young man looked like. So we did come together and we kind of edited the video ourselves. We released a version that we felt was more true to scope,” Genay Mills said.

In the released video, two people dressed in all black can be seen pointing guns at Gary Mills. One of the gunmen is seen wearing orange tennis shoes.

“We just hope that someone in the community could give us some information, and help lead us somewhere. Right now we have more so fear that the case could go cold. And obviously, we want to get justice for my brother,” Genay Mills said.

She added that the family believes that someone will come forward with information about the shooting.

“My nieces and nephews love their father very much. I truly believe that someone who has information that will put us in positions where we could get some closure,” Genay Mills said.

This is still an active investigation and JSO is asking anyone with information to call 904-630-0500 or call CrimeStoppers to remain anonymous at 866-845-TIPS (8477).
