FORT LAUDERDALE – Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation that will soon allow Floridians to buy cartoonishly large bottles of wine in state stores.
DeSantis held a news conference at a wine shop in South Florida to sign HB 583 which will allow businesses to sell up to 15 liters of wine, which is nearly four gallons.

The new law states that it is unlawful for a person to sell within this state wine in an individual container holding more than 1 gallon of wine, unless the wine is in a reusable container holding 5.16 gallons or a glass container holding 4.5 liters, 6 liters, 9 liters, 12 liters, or 15 liters. But, qualified distributors and manufacturers may sell wine to other qualified distributors or manufacturers in any size container.
“People need these...I asked, would people buy those?” DeSantis said. “But yes. If you have a wedding, if you have a special celebration.”
DeSantis said the new law is an example of cutting unnecessary red tape and eliminating out-of-state regulations to help businesses thrive.
“We want our consumers to be happy. And if that means they want to buy and sell a big old bottle of wine like this, then by golly, they’re gonna be able to do that in the state of Florida,” he added.
The new law will take effect July 1.
