JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – By now, you may have heard Vic Micolucci, News4JAX reporter, anchor, investigator, and all-around great guy, is leaving Channel 4.
His last day on-air is on Wednesday.
Before delving into his upcoming chapter, News4JAX anchor Joy Purdy sat down with Vic for a one-hour podcast “frienterview.” They discussed a wide range of topics, spanning from reminiscing about his experiences accumulated over his 15-plus years in Duval County, to his future endeavors as the Community Engagement Executive at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Here’s what Vic had to say when asked why he was leaving Channel 4.

“Why am I leaving? Because I believe in public service and there’s an opportunity to get out there to use the bonds and the connections that I have built over the years,” Vic said. “The lessons that I’ve learned and get out there and put some resources on them. I see things a little differently than maybe somebody with a badge, right, and I also see the challenges that our law enforcement and first responders go through because I’ve spent so much time with them.”
Vic says one of his favorite things he has accomplished has been helping his community. He hopes to bring this passion into his next job.
“I have built bonds in this community and I love this community,” Vic said. “As a journalist, I’ve loved reaching out and helping solve problems and I hope there will be problems that I can help solve directly.”
Vic grew up in Jacksonville, went to college at the University of Florida, is working on his master’s at the University of North Florida, and is now leaving Channel 4. But just because he’s leaving us, doesn’t mean you won’t see him around.
“I’m not leaving Jacksonville,” Vic said. “This is not a goodbye. I’m still gonna be out there. I’m still working for the community. I’m just kind of shifting the way I’m doing it. I mean look. I have such respect for you and the entire team you know I’m a big Joy Purdy fan, everybody knows that, in front of the camera behind the camera, we have some people who are really good at their job and there’s passion, and that’s something you don’t get when you turn on the networks, you don’t get that community feel where they really do care.”
