JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a corrections officer has been arrested and accused of misdemeanor battery and official misconduct.
During a Monday news conference, JSO said officer Jordan Weiss saw a jail inmate engaged in an inappropriate sex act last month in front of a civilian employee and told him to stop.

The inmate ran and tried to hide, JSO said and Weiss found him, pepper sprayed him and struck him, even though he was not resisting. JSO the inmate was treated but not significantly hurt.
JSO said the inmate did not file a complaint following the use of force but issues were discovered by JSO’s professional oversight unit.
Weiss completed a response to resistance report after the incident, which was reviewed by the unit, and members noted discrepancies between Weiss’s characterization and other evidence.
Weiss, who has been with JSO for just under two years, has been stripped of his duties and suspended, JSO said.
His arrest is the third arrest this year by JSO of one of its own, and the sixth arrest of a JSO staffer by all agencies combined.
