Woman arrested after being ‘directed by God’ during eclipse to fire rifle at cars on Florida highway

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol arrested a 22-year-old woman from Georgia suspected of firing a rifle at multiple cars on Interstate 10 in Holmes County on Monday.

Officials said the woman checked out of a hotel and told the staff she was going on a shooting spree directed by “God” in relation to the solar eclipse.

The woman entered I-10 at the 112-mile marker and traveled west.

The report said the woman fired multiple shots into another vehicle traveling along the interstate and struck a passing car multiple times.

The driver was struck by glass fragments from the window and was grazed on the arm by a bullet. He was able to steer his car onto the shoulder of the road to get away from the shooter.

Officials said the woman continued west on I-10 and shot at another vehicle near the 107-mile marker, hitting the driver in the neck. The victim was taken to a hospital to receive treatment.

Troopers said they found the woman near the 96-mile marker and conducted a felony traffic stop. They took her into custody without incident and found an AR-15 and a 9mm handgun in her car.

She was charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and improper discharge of a firearm.

FHP is still investigating and said further details will be released when they are available.
