Retired Air Force veteran says Iran’s drone strikes on Israel could cause gas prices to rise

ISRAEL – A retired Air Force veteran said he doesn’t think the tensions will rise between Iran and Israel, but the conflict could cause gas prices to rise.

About 350 rockets were fired from Iran, Iraq, and Yemen toward Israel. This comes after an Iranian building in Syria was hit, killing 12 people including two Iranian generals.

United States forces shot down over 70 one-way attack drones and about three ballistic missiles, according to officials.

President Joe Biden told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the U.S. will not take part in any actions against Iran.

Retired Air Force Major General Douglas Burnett talked about how the conflict could impact the U.S.

“I don’t see it exponentially escalated. They sent drones with lights on so we could see them, basically to save face. Iran needed to fire something back to Israel. That’s the way the game is played in international politics, but they don’t want to hurt anybody,” Burnett said.

Burnett also said the U.S. should only be involved to a certain extent.

“We should get involved and we are to the extent with a defensive perspective. Now we don’t want troops on the ground anywhere over there. But we should get involved with more lethargy available to the Israelis, but [we’ve] got to be careful though. You’re going to get bigger weapons back,” Burnett said.

He also said U.S. oil and gas prices could go up.

“Yeah, they’re going to go up, but that’s because of market volatility. You’ve got a war going on with a possibility of escalation. Traders will spike it up a little bit in their own self-interest and you might see it go slightly over $4,” Burnett said.

Concerns over Iran’s retaliation pushed oil prices to their highest level since October. Iran is one of the world’s largest producers of crude oil.

Experts said the main concern is that if Israel attacks on Iranian soil, it could put Iran’s oil platforms and refineries at risk.
