JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office hosted the local Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money for Special Olympics Florida.
The one-mile run started on Bay Street in front of the Police Memorial Building and concluded at The Jacksonville Fairgrounds.

Local criminal justice agency members and special athletes ran together and brought the “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremony of Florida’s annual State Summer Games.
Then Jacksonville runners carried the “Flame of Hope” to The Jacksonville Fairgrounds where JSO hosted a brief reception for participation.
Following the run, the torch was passed on to law enforcement officials in another county for their event.
Money is raised for Special Olympics through purchasing shirts and challenge coins sold during the first quarter of the year.
JSO officer Max Morel said they’ve raised $3,300 so far in the year.
That money helps athletes participate in the Special Olympic Games.
