JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is looking for a person in connection to damage done at multiple businesses in San Marco Square.
JSO reported that someone threw a rock at 10 storefronts, damaging their windows.
Scott Riley owns Stellers Gallery and he said his place wasn’t damaged, but his wife’s business, which is right next to his, was.
“We’ve got to clean up, we’ve got to replace and we’ve got to pay for it,” Riley said.
According to incident reports, the damage done to the stores cost nearly $30,000.
The damaged businesses were:
- Underwoods Jewelers
- Sherwin Williams
- Firehouse Subs
- Maple Street Biscuit Company
- Bank of America
- Grape & Grain Exchange
- Town Hall
- Heyday!
- Peterbrooke Chocolatier
- Missy Riley Art & Pieces
The report also said $15 worth of property was stolen from Firehouse Subs.
Many people in the square didn’t want to speak on camera, but they thought the act was unnecessary.
James Ward is a visitor from out of town and he used to work on windows for a living.
“Being that I know that, I know that it would expect to be boarded up for some time while they wait on the glass to come in. That could take two days to two weeks,” Ward said.
While windows may be boarded up for a few weeks, one business already has a sign letting people know they’re still open.
Anyone with information on the person is asked to contact JSO at 904-630-0500.
