FHP said the second car slowed for traffic, and the 61-year-old woman failed to slow down and rear-ended the car in front of her.
The woman attempted to move to the center lane and pulled in front of a third car that was trying to avoid the initial crash, according to FHP.
The front left of the third car collided with the right rear of the woman’s car.
The woman was then redirected into the HOV lanes. Investigators said she traveled directly in front of a fourth vehicle in the outside HOV lane where the front of the fourth car collided with the driver’s side of the woman, which caused her car to rotate.
The fifth car that was traveling directly behind the fourth car struck the rear of the woman’s car.
The fourth car came to a final rest and blocked the inside travel lane and outside HOV lane of I-295.
The woman’s car came to a final rest facing north on the inside paved shoulder.
The second, third, and fifth cars relocated to the inside paved median.
The woman died on the scene.
