That’s because it’s the official new mascot for the college.

The Jacksonville community and students voted from January 17 to February 23, 2024, to select a winner from the three finalists:
- Kraken
- Manta Ray
- Sea Dragon
The vote garnered nearly 20,000 votes.
The Manta Ray ultimately came out on top. The new mascot was introduced during the college’s graduation ceremony on Thursday.
“This has been an exciting process, and we cannot thank the community enough for their involvement,” FSCJ President Dr. John Avendano said. “We often say FSCJ is ‘the community’s college’ so we wanted to be sure we selected a mascot that everyone would connect with and help us build on that energy. The Manta Ray was a perfect choice for us, and we cannot wait to see the symbol on shirts, hats, uniforms, signage and more.”
The Manta Ray mascot doesn’t have a name — yet. However, the college plans to discuss the matter after the mascot is rolled out across the campus and merchandise is updated. Click here to see some of the new merch.
