ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. – A team of Jacksonville executives gathered Friday morning to perform repairs on a veteran’s home in the Oak Harbor neighborhood in Atlantic Beach.

The homeowner, Mr. Bob, is a 26-year Navy veteran who currently works as a school crossing guard at Neptune Beach Elementary.

“I didn’t want a job, I wanted a reason to get up in the morning. That’s what the kids give me,” Mr. Bob said.

The work at Mr. Bob’s home was part of the fifth annual Beaches Habitat CEO Build -- an opportunity for business leaders to get out of the office and help give back to the community.

“This blows me away, I can’t express... I don’t have the words,” Mr. Bob said. “They’ve repaired stuff already that I didn’t even know was wrong.”

Mr. Bob has lived in that home since 1984 and said he doesn’t ever want to move.

As part of this event, each participating company makes a financial contribution, ranging from $2,500 to $10,000, to support the cost of the home repairs.

This year’s sponsors include:

  • Dubin Clark & Company, Inc.
  • Hueman People Solutions
  • Super Home Services
  • Jayson Judy State Farm Agency
  • KB Homes
  • LandSouth Construction
  • Landstar
  • Sleiman Enterprises
  • Subaru of Jacksonville
  • Tom Bush Family of Dealerships

Unfortunately, inclement weather halted the repairs on Friday. However, the work is expected to be completed this weekend.
