Teen, adult recovering in hospital after being shot at Oakleaf apartment complex

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A teen and an adult were shot at an apartment complex in Oakleaf, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said the victims were at the Argyle Lake Apartments in a car when they were approached by two individuals who then shot at them.

The victims fled from the area and drove in a car to a local urgent care, where they were transported to different hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

A woman said she was inside a business by the clinic before the man and teen drove up.

“I saw the ambulance come and I didn’t know what it was for until I saw them putting up the crime scene tape then I was still confused. When I walked out, that car was still there, and it wasn’t there when I went in,” Jessica Hawk said.

A burgundy sedan could be seen at the urgent care with what appears to be a bullet hole in the backseat window. When News4JAX arrived at the scene, the passenger door was open and the car was running.

The adult male was shot in both arms and the teen was shot in his leg and back.

Police said they haven’t been able to talk to the victims because of their conditions.

Nick Roman said he witnessed the shooting.

“He was shooting right next to a playground. I’m just happy that no one else was hurt. And that none of the kids were hurt because my sister’s kids were outside as well,” Roman said.

Roman said his neighbors were shocked about the shooting.

“My one neighbor that’s right next door to us, she’s very shaken up. She’s scared and she was talking to her husband about it as well,” Roman said.

Kaitlyn Sizemore said it was strange to see activity like that.

“It’s normally pretty quiet, there’s not a lot of problems, especially in this area near the town center,” Sizemore said.

She said she’s never seen that many police officers in one area since she’s lived there.

“When we pulled up, we’re like ‘What’s going on?’ because we’ve never seen nothing like this before,” Sizemore said.
