Investigators said the victim drove away and crashed in the 5900 block of Normandy Boulevard.

He was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

A woman who was driving through the area gave her thoughts on the heavy police presence in the area.

“[It’s] kind of surprising because...you see a couple of law accidents or whatever but nothing like this. Nothing big like this,” the woman said.

She said she still feels safe in even though the shooting happened.

This shooting adds to the number of shootings that JSO is investigating from the wave of violence over the weekend.

Recently, ICARE held a prayer vigil to end violence in the city but there has been a decline in homicides and murders so far in 2024.

According to News4JAX records, there have been 32 homicides and 22 murders.

In 2023, there were 55 homicides and 32 murders around this time which is about a 42% drop in homicides.

This weekend, the number of people shot in 2024 increased to 119, a few less than last year.

Saturday, a man and a teen were shot while sitting in a car. They fled the area and drove to a nearby clinic where they were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A few hours later, a man was found shot in a car on the Interstate.

The man’s car was seen traveling off the road and into a tree line. Officers responded and he was taken to the hospital where he died.

No arrests have been made in any of the shootings.
