Woman hopes to bring awareness to “dangerous” Sans Souci road after accident

She is also looking for her cat that she lost in the crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman is on a mission to bring awareness to a road in Sans Souci that she called dangerous after being involved in a crash where she lost her cat.

It happened near the intersection of Hogan Road and East Road in April.

Kristin Osborne’s windshield came out when a car hit her from the side.

Then her car flipped a few times.

“It’s very dangerous. I would say it’s very dangerous here...besides the frequent running of the stop sign, high speeds. People going on average 50 mph,” Osborne said.

A few people who frequent the area said speeding and crashes are an issue on the street and intersection.

“This road is a cut-through between University and you can save a lot of stoplights if you kind of cut through this neighborhood. So people fly through, they run the stop sign,” Kellyn Kelemen of Springfield Kitty Cat Shack Rescue said.

She lives in the area and stopped to help Osborne after seeing the aftermath of the crash.

The two have stayed in touch because Kelemen works with a cat rescue.

Right after the crash, Osborne’s cat jumped out of her car and ran away from the scene.

Surveillance video shows the moments her cat, Spooky, who she loves dearly, runs out of the car.

“It’s been so sad. I’m like so traumatized by the whole experience plays in my head over and over again. A bunch of what-ifs, like ‘What if I could’ve just reached him?’” Osborne said.

Since her cat ran away, Osborne and Keleman have been setting traps hoping to catch Spooky.

They’ve also set up trail cams near the traps to monitor what happens, but no luck.

Osborne said she wants to make sure no one gets in a crash on this road again or ever loses their cat the way she did.

So she wants changes to be made.

“I know for sure that speed bumps are necessary...I feel like it’s scary because I was able to walk away mostly from a situation but my wreck was kind of severe it was a serious car wreck and I didn’t have any kids in the car. So what’s to say the next person won’t, there might be a loss of life instead of just a lost cat,” Osborne said.

Osborne said she plans to use a company out of Orlando to help search for the cat. She’s also raising money to be able to afford that company.

News4JAX reached out to the councilperson over that area, Kevin Carrico, to see if anyone had complained about speeding in that area before.
