JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two people were taken to a hospital after crashing their truck into a business in the Murray Hill area early Sunday, according to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
Around 3 a.m., the truck crashed into First Coast CrossFit on Edgewood Avenue.
Daniel Mattsson-Boze, owner of the CrossFit business, said thankfully the building was empty at the time of the incident.
“I got a knock on my door from JSO and they asked if I owned the gym. I said ‘Yeah’ and they said ‘Well, there’s a truck sitting in your wall.’ So I came down here and there was a blue Dodge Ram in the wall,” Mattsson-Boze said.
Mattsson-Boze said the truck went through the front area of the gym, where his office is located.
“We still have people coming in and out through the bay doors instead of through the front entrance, and we’ll still operate like normally. We’re not going to have anyone come through here (the front entrance) until we have someone come out to verify everything is structurally sound,” Mattsson-Boze said.
According to Mattsson-Boze, the gym was established in 2014 but it was initially located on Park Street. It just moved to this new location about six months ago.
“This is unfortunate, but we will not let it hold us back. I think we will be up and running before too long,” Mattsson-Boze said.
Paul Marshall, who lives nearby, said drivers tend to speed around this area.
“We have people go very quickly through here and quite loudly. But it is quite sad. Obviously, I don’t think it was intentional,” Marshall said. “Sadly, it is a residential neighborhood with people going quickly to get onto I-10.”
JFRD said one of the two people suffered serious injuries.
“My only issue is that there is no four-way stop at this intersection so that has been unfortunate. There have been several accidents here,” Mattsson-Boze said.
The cause of the crash is unknown.
