‘Don’t you drive off’: Video shows nearly 20-mile SJC deputy pursuit, arrest of woman wanted in Citrus County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Deputy dash cam and helicopter video released Monday by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office shows the moment a 42-year-old woman hit the gas on deputies who pulled her over under the suspicion that she was driving under the influence.

The video begins with Deputy Davis-Welch approaching Alexandria Mason’s pickup truck and asking to see her license and registration.

“What’s going on?” Mason replied.

He explained that she had a warrant out for her arrest in Citrus County. The sheriff’s office said the warrant was for Mason’s failure to appear in court in connection to the possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

“You’re not allowed to stop me,” Mason said while denying that she was wanted.

In the next clip, Mason shook her head and pulled off while the deputy stood next to the truck.

“Don’t you drive off. Don’t you do it,” Davis-Welch warned.

Deputies immediately jumped into their vehicles to follow Mason on Interstate 95 North, prompting a nearly 20-mile-long chase.

The Florida Highway Patrol joined the case around the Duval/St. Johns County line.

As the truck neared the Atlantic Boulevard exit, one of the troopers was able to perform a successful PIT maneuver, which caused Mason to lose control and slam into a Hyundai Santa Fe, damaging both vehicles. Two FHP vehicles were also damaged in the crash.

Three deputies pinned her to the ground and wrapped the handcuffs around her wrists.

Deputies said a stolen gun, drugs and a controlled substance were found in the truck.

Mason is facing charges of reckless driving, DUI, aggravated fleeing and eluding law enforcement, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a stolen firearm -- along with the existing warrant from Citrus County.
