GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – Hundreds of boaters and community members will head to Bayard Point on Friday for Clay County’s “Boater Skip Day.”

Ahead of the much anticipated day of play on the St. Johns River, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said it is doing everything to ensure participants have fun and stay safe.

Although “Boater Skip Day” is an unofficial day of hooky, law enforcement will be fully staffed and other agencies such as the Clay County Fire Rescue will also be on alert.

“Our number one concern is the safety of everybody who is participating,” Sheriff Michelle Cook said on a Wednesday Facebook Live.

The sheriff’s office will have resources available to deploy in an emergency. The boat ramps will fill up quickly, so the CCSO will mark the entrance and exit points.

People are advised not to park vehicles illegally because tickets and towing will be enforced.

Cook also stressed the need for participants to be patient and urged them to arrive early.

Also, she advised that people watch out for pedestrians and people getting in and out of the water.

“Remember, be patient, be smart, and if you need help know that we are out there to help you. Otherwise, I hope everyone enjoys ‘Boater Skip Day,’” Cook said.

Don’t forget to stay hydrated and keep a personal floatation device handy.
