JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man in his 50s died Thursday evening in a single-vehicle crash on Atlantic Boulevard, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6:30 p.m., the man was driving an SUV, and according to police, for unknown reasons, he started to veer off the road.

He hit a sign, crashed into an electrical pole in front of Captain D’s and then slammed into the restaurant’s sign, JSO said.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue responded and administered medical treatment, but the man had to be taken to the hospital, where he died.
Police do not believe the man was impaired. No one else was in the SUV. Paramedics said it’s possible the man experienced a medical emergency, but the Medical Examiner’s Office will have to determine that.
This makes the 70th traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
