Man killed in deputy-involved shooting after ramming patrol vehicle on US-1 in St. Johns County

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A man died after a shooting occurred while the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for concern about the man experiencing mental health issues.

The family member told the sheriff’s office that the man had been drinking and making suicidal threats then left his home Friday with a gun.

Deputies found the man in his truck on US-1 near Old Moultrie Road and attempted to check on him, SJCO said. But the man rammed one of the patrol vehicles, prompting four deputies to shoot at him.

According to a video from an Insider, the deputies surrounded the white pickup truck that was in the middle of the road.

You can hear multiple shots go off.

The deputy was uninjured, but the man died.

This is the 6th shooting involving law enforcement in the last five weeks, according to News4JAX records.
