ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Commissioners will get an update at 5 p.m. Monday on the plans to replace the Seawall along A1A in downtown St. Augustine.
The Florida Department of Transportation released pictures of what the project could look like once it’s finished. FDOT says if a new one were to be built it would better protect the area during storm time.

A 42-inch barrier will replace the chain and posts that line the seawall. The project will stretch from the Bridge of Lions to the Castillo de San Marcos.
The seawall was built in the 1960s and is reaching the end of its life.
Engineers say it could help protect the area, and the project could start as early as November of next year.
A temporary work platform will be placed along the seawall, and construction materials will be delivered by barge. The construction costs $35 million while the total estimated project costs $45 million.
