JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office police officer was arrested Sunday night and is accused of domestic battery, JSO Undersheriff Shawn Coarsey announced during a Monday news conference.
According to Coarsey, JSO responded to Officer John Luna’s home Sunday night after one of his neighbors “heard screaming and calls for help from Luna’s residence.”

When police arrived, officers met with the victim who had visible injuries, JSO said.
Initial investigation showed that Luna and the victim had been in a verbal argument that turned physical, according to JSO.
Luna was then arrested and is now facing one charge of domestic battery, a misdemeanor.
According to JSO, Luna had worked as a corrections officer for two years. At the time of his arrest, he was training to become a police officer.
“No one is above the law,” Coarsey said Monday.
According to JSO, Luna is now the subject of an internal investigation and has been stripped of his authority. Luna will also be terminated from his position at the agency, Coarsey said.
Luna’s arrest marked the seventh arrest of a JSO employee by the agency so far this year, and the 10th arrest of a JSO employee overall, including other agencies.
