Prince Holland’s mother continues fight for justice as new evidence comes to light in his murder

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The mother of 13-year-old Prince Holland is still searching for answers in her son’s death after the State Attorney’s Office released new evidence that she said she was unaware of.

Hours-long interrogations of Marcel Johnson and Kentrevious Garard, the two men charged in the case, and numerous phone calls were released.

“I just want to know why they are hiding stuff. Why is the state finding stuff? I don’t get calls from anybody. No detectives. I don’t even have an attorney anymore. They dropped my case out of nowhere,” Chantel Brown said.

Brown said she hired an attorney to pursue a civil suit against the football league Holland was a part of.

Holland was killed in a targeted drive-by shooting in December 2022. Investigators said there were more than 20 shots fired into the SUV he was riding in after football tryouts in Northwest Jacksonville.

Holland’s coach was also shot 10 times and an 11-year-old was wounded.

Garard is accused of pulling the trigger, and police said Johnson was the driver of the getaway car.

According to an interrogation tape, Johnson told detectives he later learned the person they were targeting was not in the SUV.

“I looked at the news. I’m not going to lie, I looked at the news and they said a 20-year-old so I’m like, bruh, you did all this and I know he’s not 20,” Johnson said.

Feeling discouraged, Brown continues to search for answers.

“I will continue to fight for my son,” Brown said. “Nobody else wants to fight. I will. His mother will always fight.”

Nearly two years after Holland’s death, Brown said she feels like her son has been forgotten.

“I’m still going to fight every day. I’m going to fight until the day I die, until my last breath, and even from the grave, I’ll still be continuing to fight for my son because justice is justice. Right is right and wrong is wrong,” Brown said. “If you are wrong, admit you’re wrong.”
