DUVAL COUNTY, Fla.Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland reminded voters of the importance of ensuring their current signature matches the one their office has on file ahead of the upcoming primary and general elections.

This reminder is especially important for people who plan on voting by mail in the Aug. 20 primary election and Nov. 5 general election, Holland said.

Anyone who needs to update their signature for the upcoming elections must submit the signature update and received by the Supervisor of Elections before the vote-by-mail (VBM) ballot is received.

If the signatures match, the VBM ballot will be opened and counted. However, if the signatures don’t match, a VBM cure affidavit form will be mailed to the voter with specific instructions on how to fix the discrepancy.

The deadline to submit the form and ID is no later than 5 p.m., the second day after the election.

According to Holland, all Supervisor of Elections staff and the Canvassing Board are trained on how to detect forgeries and inconsistencies in signatures to ensure that VBM ballots are legitimately signed by the voter.

The Canvassing Board makes the final decision on VBM ballot signature discrepancies and whether to accept or reject the ballot after the cure deadline passes.
