A breakdown of just how much taxpayer dollars are going toward St. Johns County schools

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla – The St. Johns County Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller is giving us a closer look at how taxpayer money is spent and a lot of it is going toward education and schools.

Five new schools are being built in the county. And when the school bell rings in the fall, students will be more spread out at these new schools.

The fact of the matter is the county is growing fast and county leaders are putting a lot of focus on education. St. Johns County is known for its “A” schools and strong education system.

Kelli Nolan, says she’s seen the growth over the last four years of living in St. Johns County.

“Lots of houses going up and schools, lots of restaurants, different things happening,” Nolan said.

The new schools are:

  • Trout Creek Academy at 855 Timberwolf Trail in St. Augustine
  • K-8 School PP at 2505 RiverTown Main Street in St. Johns
  • Lakeside Academy (formerly K-8 School OO) at 1455 Twin Creeks Drive in St. Augustine
  • K-8 School RR located in Nocatee DRI (Seabrook, formerly Snowden Village)

The new tracking tax dollars report shows how the property tax dollars are spent.

For every $100 of tax money:

  • $18 goes to the Sheriff’s Office operations
  • $6 goes to transportation
  • $11 goes to fire services
  • $17 goes to all other county services
  • $3 goes to special district
  • and $45 goes to the school board (schools and education)
