CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – Clay County residents will be getting new garbage cans delivered to their homes, starting July 29. It will take seven to eight weeks for everyone to get their new cans. But don’t start using them right away no matter when they arrive, the county said.

The new cans are for FCC Environmental, which is taking over the county’s curbside collection services on Oct. 1.

The current company will NOT pick up the FCC Environmental cans, so it’s important for residents to wait until October to start using the new cans, the county said.

These changes do not apply to residents who live within the city limits of Green Cove Springs or the Town of Orange Park because they handle their trash services separately from the county.

The county shared the following FAQs to help residents with the transition.

Clay County neighbors will get new garbage cans delivered to their homes this summer (Clay County)

How long will it take to get the new garbage cans?

Crews will deliver all cans by Sept. 23. Crews will leave the new can in front of your home.

Neighbors should not use the new garbage cans until Oct. 1, because the company currently handling curbside collection services will not collect garbage placed in FCC’s new cans.

What can neighbors do with old cans?

Once Oct. 1 rolls around and neighbors start using their new cans, they can still use the old cans for yard waste. They can also bring the old can to any of the county’s Environmental Convenience Centers or the Rosemary Hill Facility, and crews will dispose of it during normal business hours.

What size are these cans?

The cans are 95-gallon cans, and there is a 65-gallon can available. If neighbors want to request a different can, they can contact FCC after Nov. 1 at 904-490-9996.

How will neighbors know their pickup day?

FCC Environmental will be sharing this information online for neighbors to access. Crews will collect garbage and yard waste on the same day.

What is the cost of these services?

The Collection Assessment will be $262/year and is a non-ad valorem assessment billed on residents’ annual tax bill.

Neighbors can also bring additional bagged trash to the Rosemary Hill Facility, 500 pounds per household per month, at no charge. They can also bring additional bagged trash to the Environmental Convenience Centers, for one trip per day, per household, at no charge.

Neighbors can ask a question, or voice a concern, by emailing askclay@claycountygov.com, and staff will respond.
