JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Motel 6 on Philips Highway south of Baymeadows Road was temporarily evacuated early Friday morning because of police activity.
People staying at the motel told News4JAX they heard a commotion around 3 a.m.

They said they heard officers knocking on a door and calling for the people inside to come out.
They said that’s when the officers started to evacuate people out of the building and off the property.
Jacksonville Fire and Rescue and Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office personnel could be seen standing by in a nearby parking lot hours later, and the motel was cordoned off with police tape.
Sources told News4JAX the incident possibly involved an armed suspect.
The scene cleared around 8:30 a.m. and people were allowed to return to their rooms.
