FLORIDA – Local officials reacted to the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump at his rally held in Pennsylvania.

Dean Black, Chairman of the Republican Party of Duval County, released a statement that reads in part:
“First and foremost, we are grateful that President Trump is safe and for the heroic actions of the Secret Service Agents and first responders,” Black said. “We are praying for President Trump and the families of those who were killed and wounded.”
Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan made the following post on X (formerly Twitter):
Political violence is indefensible, and unacceptable in the United States of America. My prayers are with the former President and his family. Let’s gather ourselves in this moment and remember who we are.

Sheriff T.K. Waters released the following statement:
I am angered and saddened by the assassination attempt on former President Trump. While emotions run high during political elections, violence is never acceptable. We are a society of law and order, marked by a peaceful, democratic system of government. My thoughts go out to President Trump as he recovers, and I pray that our great nation stands in solidarity against this violence.

Rep. Aaron Bean said he was praying for Trump.
