Site of the imploded Berkman II tower has new owner after auction

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The riverfront property where the Berkman II tower -- a building full of promise and growth -- once stood has a new owner.

According to the Jacksonville Business Journal, the property at 500 E. Bay St. was auctioned off Monday for $5.125 million.

The Jacksonville Daily Record is reporting Choate had the winning bid.

Choate is a Georgia based contractor that has a history with this property.

The Berkman II tower was imploded two years ago, in March 6, 2022 after being abandoned for years.

The auction was delayed after the owner, PB Riverfront Revitalization of Jacksonville LLC filed for bankruptcy.

The project was under construction in 2007 when the work was stopped. The parking garage had collapsed, killing a worker.
