JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A worldwide technology outage had the Jacksonville International Airport dealing with flight delays and cancellations all day Friday.
Several travelers were impacted by the outage, having to scramble for new flights with different airlines.
“So I’ve been here since 9:00 a.m. We’re trying to book another flight because ours was canceled,” Dora Munoz said.
According to FlightAware, around 9:00 p.m. Friday night, there were over 41,000 flights delayed and over 4,000 canceled worldwide.
“It’s just been crazy,” Munoz said.

A cybersecurity firm named CrowdStrike said the issue is not a security incident or cyberattack but a problem with an update they sent out Friday morning, impacting computers running on Microsoft windows .
Genny, another person at the airport having issues with her flight, had also been at the airport for hours.
She said she’d been having difficulty speaking with someone at Delta, the airline she was supposed to travel on.
“I did spend $800 on a ticket being non-refundable so I would like to see how that goes.”
Delta said it was extending waivers to travelers and would notify people about their flight cancellations through the app.
The marketing and public relations manager for the Jacksonville Aviation Authority said they noticed problems at Jacksonville International Airport around 2 a.m.
Since then, they’ve been working to fix what they have control of and he said for the most part they just had a few small things to worry about.
“We have a lot of monitors in the terminal that we’re making sure those are restored. Those are the type of things that provide travelers with flight information, gate information, so right now they’re working through a total restoration of that,” Greg Willis, marketing and public relations manager for JAA.
