According to the post, the preliminary investigation found a 2024 Nissan sedan ran off the road after approaching a 90-degree corner at a high rate of speed, passing over a guardrail and through a fence before striking a tree. One of the car’s passengers — identified as Alicia Carmona, 39, of Jacksonville — was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, the post states.
Carmona’s two children — a 15-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy — were injured in the crash and taken to a hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. Both were said to be in stable condition as of Saturday morning.
The car’s driver has been identified as Tiffany Alexander West, 36, of Orlando, who the sheriff’s office said was hospitalized with facial fractures. A sample of West’s blood was obtained for testing and “criminal charges are expected” following a traffic homicide investigator’s observation that she allegedly showed signs of impairment, according to the post.
North Ridge Trail was closed for about five hours after the crash, the sheriff’s office said.
