Afternoon showers brought in extra water, causing some delays to ensure crew safety. The crews were working 24 hours a day on 12-hour shifts to complete the project.
The closed lanes caused heavy traffic backups and frustration for drivers.
A JEA spokesperson thanked the community for its patience.
People told News4JAX over the weekend that they couldn’t wait for the work to be completed.
“It’s been so hard,” Tay said. “Ever since it started traffic has been absolutely horrible. Our clients come in 20, 30 minutes late to their appointments. We have been excusing all of the appointments obviously due to the traffic.”
