JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A new simulator at Keiser University Jacksonville aims to give people studying to enter law enforcement and the criminal justice field, practice.
The Milo Range Simulator teaches critical incident training, de-escalation tactics and decision support training.
The system has over 900 scenarios for users to practice on.
“I think it helps people get a real idea of a scenario and how you react to the scenario,” JSO Sheriff T.K. Waters said. “We have something very similar to this at the police academy and it helps them shoot don’t shoot. How to verbalize what your commands are.”
News4JAX Crime and Safety Analyst Tom Hackney said tools like this, can help people administering the system, see who is too aggressive in certain situations and helps highlight people who may not have the best motives.
“Any kind of simulated training that you can get that puts you in a room with a real-life scenario is good,” Hackney said.
Lisamarie Winslow, the president of the Jacksonville campus said she is happy this training system is on her campus.
“This helps prepare somebody who says this is what I want to do but until you actually experience that live, your life is on the line situation, you don’t know how you’re going to react,” Winslow said. “I think it really helps them make a good sound decision that their career choice is the right choice for them.”
