We asked our community on Instagram which ice cream shop is the absolute best, and we received more than 100 responses (and counting!). So, we thought it would be a good idea to create a list of the most-mentioned ice cream shops in the River City.
Can you think of a better way to prepare for the work week than with a big cone of your favorite ice cream? We can’t either.
Here are the best places to satisfy your ice cream cravings in the 904, per our Duval County community:
Mayday
“Each of our flavors has been carefully crafted with the highest quality ingredients and lots of love!” As one of our most-mentioned ice cream shops, we think this description on the ice cream shop’s website is on point. Mayday offers dozens of unique flavors across their locations in Northeast Florida. Click here to find your nearest location.
Dreamette
This ice cream shop was originally known as “Creamette” when it opened in 1948, and in 1969, it changed its name to Dreamette. But its website says it best: “While a lot has changed in 75 years, Dreamette is only improving!” Judging by the number of mentions under our post, it’s fair to say our community agrees with that statement. Here are some of its locations: 1401 N Main St, in Springfield, 1905 Hendricks Ave. in San Marco, and 61 Sailfish Dr E in Atlantic Beach.
Waffle Cone
“A nostalgic ice cream experience to make your Riverside visits even SWEETER!” This family-owned ice cream shop offers a variety of absolutely delicious classic and specialty flavors (just look at that beauty below!) This shop also offers dairy-free, sugar-free, and gluten-free options. Address: 822 Post Street in Jacksonville.
Oh, and we almost forgot, Waffle Cone shared a special announcement on our Instagram post: “20% OFF scoops today đź¤đźŤ¨đź’— Happy National Ice Cream Day!”
Malachi’s Ice Cream Bar
This is not your typical ice cream shop as it brings a special twist to the classic ice cream experience. Apart from offering classic ice cream flavors and sweet treats, Malachi’s Ice Cream Bar also has a selection of beer, wine, boozy shakes, and more. Its website states: “We’re proudly owned by a mom who knows how to infuse joy into every scoop, catering to all ages. And the heart of this gem? It’s named after her son, Malachi!” Address: 1661 Riverside Ave Ste 128 in Jacksonville.
Gator Ice Cream
This local ice cream shop takes pride in the fact that it does not add stabilizers or preservatives to its ice cream, and it only uses fresh and natural ingredients, according to its website. But we haven’t even mentioned the best part -- Gator Ice Cream has a total of 60 flavors for people to enjoy (including some “boozy” options!) Address: 1010-B Third St N. in Jacksonville Beach.
Bruster’s
If creamy, classic and delicious is what you like, then Bruster’s is the place for you. “Bruster’s is a community staple where you can treat yourself, someone you love and share sweet memories along the way.” There are several Bruster’s locations across our area. To find your nearest location visit this website.
Other ice cream shops that were mentioned include Whit’s Frozen Custard, Jeremiah’s Italian Ice and Springfield Scoops.
So now you know, if you’re looking for a place to satisfy that sweet tooth, Jacksonville has plenty of options for you.
