BUTLER, Pa. – The House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green led a bipartisan visit to the site of the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump.

Members toured the site and then held a press conference to inform the public of the committee’s oversight investigation into the security lapses of that day.

The tour comes on the same day of the first congressional hearing over the shooting at a Trump campaign rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.

As calls mounted for her to resign, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle told lawmakers that she took “full responsibility” for the security lapses, and she vowed to “move heaven and earth” to make sure there’s no repeat of it.

The attack on Trump was the most serious attempt to assassinate a president or presidential candidate since Ronald Reagan was shot in 1981. It was the latest in a series of security lapses by the agency that has drawn investigations and public scrutiny over the years.
