JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A pedestrian died early Friday after being struck by a pickup truck on Collins Road near Shindler Drive, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
According to police, the male pedestrian was walking eastbound on Collins Road around 5:30 a.m., when a white pickup truck that was also driving eastbound struck him on the outside lane.

JSO said the driver did not see the pedestrian walking on the road as it was still dark outside and he was not wearing reflective clothing.
The driver stopped and called 911 following the incident, police said.
The pedestrian died at the scene. He hasn’t been identified, according to police.
Police said they don’t believe speed or impairment were a factor in this incident.
This is the 77th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, and the 19th fatality involving a pedestrian, according to JSO.
Collins Road was closed in both directions as of Friday at 7:40 a.m., from Shindler Drive to Old Middleburg Road, as police were conducting their investigation.
It is unclear when the road will reopen. Drivers are asked to seek an alternative route.
