JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 68-year-old man was arrested nearly 20 years after a DNA collection linked him to numerous sexual assaults.

Calvin Dumas was accused of being a serial rapist and faced a sexual battery charge, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Through DNA evidence, investigators were able to connect Dumas to rape cases in 1995, 1996 and 1998.

Dumas’ arrest report obtained by News4JAX details the alleged 1998 sexual battery case.

The victim said he entered her home by removing a window from the back door. She told police she was held at knifepoint and forced into a bedroom where her two children were sleeping.

The report said Dumas threatened the woman and told her if she made noise, he would kill her.

Then, he proceeded to assault the woman in her bed, according to the report.

Before he left the woman’s house, he also took her cell phone, the report said.

In February 2016, the woman’s sexual assault kit was analyzed and connected to the DNA pulled from two other reported armed sexual batteries.

The report said the DNA was run through a familial search in January 2024. In May, Dumas was connected to be a qualifying offender as a potential “first order relative” of the DNA profile collected.

The identified relatives that could have matched the DNA were Dumas Jr. and his brother, but they would have been 9 and 11 years old at the time of the attack, so they were ruled out.

Dumas’ swabs were collected in June and proved to match the DNA found in all three reported sexual battery cases.

Dumas was also previously arrested in 1973 for raping his neighbor, then was released in 1981, JSO said.

It was also noted that in 1982, he was arrested for sexual battery and robbery, where he forced a woman behind a church.

He was then arrested in 1989 on armed robbery, attempted sexual battery and aggravated battery charges after a woman woke up to find Dumas inside her apartment. She said he demanded money, held her at knifepoint and raped her.

In 1995, he was arrested again for sexual battery and false imprisonment, where he raped another woman at knifepoint.

Officials said they will continue to try and match Dumas’ DNA against other sexual battery cases.

JSO is now asking women who have not previously reported sexual battery that fit Dumas’ criminal pattern or may know anything about any of Dumas’ attacks to speak out.
