JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The remains of the missing Flagler Estates man have been recovered and identified following a two-year investigation, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple tips led to dead ends until Feb. 8, 2024, when a citizen called the Sheriff’s Office reporting they found skeletal remains in a wooded area of their property in Flagler Estates.

Over the next few months, SJSO Major Crimes Detectives, and Forensics Unit, with the help of students from Florida Gulf Coast University, said they located more human bones in the same area.

The bones were sent to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and were positively identified as Tavarez, but his cause of death remains unknown.

“He was just a good-hearted guy and he loved his family, he loved being with us. I believe there’s several people out there in Flagler Estates that know exactly what happened and I just pray that someone will come and say something, tell someone, and pray that we find the person that actually really done this to Carlos,” Tavarez’ mother, Debbra Terrell said.

If you have any information about what happened to Tavarez, please report it to:
