“The re-opening of Edward Waters University as an early voting site represents the most recent win for Black and young voters alike, made possible by multiple years of intense advocacy by students, community organizations, and leaders,” the group said in a news release. “Amidst many changes this year to election day sites and early voting sites in Duval County, the re-opening of this new voting site is critical for equitable access to voting sites and our ability to exercise our power to vote.”

The group said the purpose of the event is to highlight other changes in voting sites this year, the need for a fully funded Supervisor of Elections budget to inform the community about changes to voting and to empower community members to vote early and spread the word to their communities.

Speakers included Northside Coalition of Jacksonville President Kelly Frazier, Duval Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland, Jacksonville Branch of the NAACP President Isaiah Rumlin, Mount Olive Primitive Baptist Church Pastor Elder Lee Harris.
