JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it is searching for a red Dodge Charger that was involved in a deadly hit-and-run on Wednesday night.

JSO said it happened around 9:40 p.m. at the intersection of 45th St. and Avenue B near the Royal Terrace neighborhood.

JSO said the driver of the Charger struck an elderly man as he was crossing Ave. B and didn’t stop.

Jacksonville Fire Rescue transported the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

“He was a real nice, kind guy,” said Terry Simpo.

Simpo and Osborne Hall have both been around the area for years.

“I think that could have been anybody’s, father, brother or son, and whoever did it, need to recognize that,” Simpo said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the red Dodge Charger or the diver please call 630-0500 or contact CrimeStoppers at 866-845-TIPS. The caller may be eligible for a cash reward.

News4JAX also spoke with other people who witnessed the death and said the driver was speeding and drove off, leaving him to die.

“You need to turn yourself in. Yes, sir, that guy was a good guy. He go to church all the time,” said Hall.
