City of Jacksonville activates heat emergency plan for 3rd consecutive day, opens cooling centers

This is the 5th straight day a Heat Advisory has been issued for Duval County

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The City of Jacksonville designated Monday as a Heat Emergency Day for the third consecutive day.

It’s now the fifth consecutive day a Heat Advisory has been issued for Duval County.

The maximum heat index is expected to be between 108 F and 112 F.

Cooling centers are available at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities:

  • All COJ Public Libraries
  • COJ Community Centers
  • COJ Splashpads

These facilities operate during their typical hours. All City Pools are now closed on weekdays because school is back in session.

The new city pool hours through Sept. 2, 2024:

  • Saturdays 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Sundays 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.

The Jacksonville Transportation Authority will provide free rides to the cooling centers. Riders must tell bus drivers that they are traveling to a cooling center.
